Starting the slow grow Models on the bases

So I finished my first 3 war-jacks, 2 vanguards and 1 mule

Mule is a powerhouse of the faction - Steam Cannon can really disrupt enemy formations

Vanguard, fast, good armour, gun shield with assault (this is the merc's best all-rounder)

I wanted my jacks to look like they been through the wars! the mustard yellow is ugly, and that's why I love it on the jacks, I'm imagine Dirty Meg had tons of the mustard paint back in the shop and did a good deal on the paint job :)

Starting the slow grow

So I know what army I'm after and I've got an idea of the colour scheme in mind for the Mercs

But like most warmachine project my starting point is basing - Merc miniatures add a new dimension to a project like this by being so varied in look.

Character units, Cygnar models, Jacks from many different design schools (Llael and privateers and scrapyards)

So the bases give me an out for army coherencies, colour choice ar the only other option but consider the fact some infantry has no armour to link to the Jacks armour

So Base (Looking for a messy world war 1 trench type base)

Starting with covering the tabs on the bases with sticky tape

Using millaput to fill the recesses and adding cut up pop-icicle sticks as trench boards 

Add fine sand and rock mix

This is also a good time to use all those spare bits and pieces - I like razor wire too.

All there missing now is painted models to stand on them!

What is the league about?

Schedule for 2013

15 points (One list) Tournament - March (League games from January till March)

25 points (Two lists, 2nd optional) Tournament - June (League games from March to June) - Hopefully using Steamroller 2013

35 points (Two lists, 2nd optional) Tournament - September (League games from June to September)

50 points (Two lists both list required) Tournament - December (League games from September to December) Final event for the slow grow league.

So the Army is all about Gun Mages (15 in the force) and Jacked Marselled Mercenary Jacks.

Mule and Vanguard to start with in any case, both jack and well worth their value added the right punch and skills to the force.

Ashylnn is a top tiered caster regardless of faction with excellent spells and a feat that can make opponents sweat!

at 15 Points I'm looking at (this is pretty hard and 1 point option would help her teir a bit)

Menoth Army 1

I wanted to share more details on the armies I'm playing this weekend

The battle Group, compared to khador this is a large battle group -Kreoss can support more than 1 jack unlike most Khador Casters, also the thing to remember is I don't have to fully power all the jacks each turn - Vassals and Choir take up the slack.

Prime Kreoss

Like many players starting Menoth Kreoss was my first caster and to be honest I never really understood how to work him in the early battle box intro games - his feat/rules seemed meh to me!

But this was my misunderstanding of him not the rules for Kreoss, with a better understanding of the game to me he is a great toolbox caster, strong feat (Game winning at times) great list of spells and good focus stack

Defenders Ward - is one of the best buff spells in the game +2 to armour and defence for one model or unit.

Purification - is one of the best debuffs in the game, Iron flesh Kazay getting you down? Remove it with this spell!

Lamentation - can just ruin some armies, paying double for upkeeps and double for spells can destroy plans of opponents
Add the normal shooty nukes for menoth and you have a good all-round caster his only let down is the sub-par old man stats which make him a target for assassination attempts.

On to his battle Group which includes


Helps protecting Kreoss from the assassination attempt, with the fix for shield guard in the game expect to see more of these jack in menoth armies.

2 Reckoners

I cannot fault these jacks, for 8 point their is IMO no better Jack in the game - great shooting backed up with excellent hitting power under the choice with a few focus you can get amazing result with these guys.

I have two in this army because I find they generally become target number one in most games taking out one jack isn't difficult for most forces but two is a different matter.


The only other survivor of my battle box - good for the arc node but I think I could of spent the 6 points more wisely - will see this weekend.


Just to provide a bit of help to Kreoss making spell casting easier and freeing up focus for the jacks.

Never leave home with out - makes our okay jacks better!

5 Exemplar Bastions

Interesting unit, provide some beef to the army, can take some punishment.

10 Exemplar Errants with UA

Real work horse of this army and hard to fault - provide numbers, shooting and a great target for defender ward early game.


Just to add tough or pathfinder - should work okay with the Errants

Painting 3 50 point armies in 2 months or how I finally finished my Battle Box Big Bash....

I'm going to a tournament next weekend which requires 3 50 point armies painted, no problems I've just about finished the Khador and have 3 armies ready to go but ..

I over Khador right now and after play a few Menoth games I've started to revisit my original battle box league force..

Khador battle box does not get my vote as a fun starting point, Jack's are disappointing and require a choir just to function on the same footing as the other forces and I felt my extra points leading to 15 points were only added to effectiveness of sub par Warjack.

Do I like Menoth? Hell yes it's just the Crusader is such a bad beat stick and menoth has far better options IMO

So all I have painted is Kreoss, Crusader, Repenter and Revenger and a max Choir and 1 Vassal.

Black Ivan

After the battle box I started to look more closely at Khador warjack options:

- Spriggan's have it all, ability to help the rest of you force with target flares, added threat of having reach, the lance is high power and get a +2 to hit on the charge, armour 21 is nice too.

- Character jacks are great, simply if you have a character jack it will out preform the non character jack almost every time (not counting the Spriggan) but their are limits for example I'll only play Drago in a Vlad list because of their affinity but Beast 09 and Black Ivan work really well for anyone.

If you only take one Warjack make it the biggest Warjack



Conquest is so big I need a new back ground to take photos! I'll tell you how these guys go after the Brismachine Tournament, Conquest is helping out PVlad and Behemoth is working for the old witch in the 35 point event.

Warjack Review for Khador

I've just finished painting all my Warjacks for Khador and thought it would be a good time to show them off and add my thoughts on them.

When I first starting playing warmachine I really though the game was all about the warjacks but after playing for while you realise them game is a about combined arms and warjack represent only a part of a playable force.

Khador on the other hand seems to find it hard to support more than one warjack in 35 and 50 point games unless you look for warjacks that need little or no support. It took me a while to realise this so this is my collection of warjacks some of which probably see very little time on the table

Both these warjacks come with the battle box, I think what their role is to teach new players what Khador warjacks are all about - slow, inaccurate, heavy armour and survivability. Also that most axes in Khador hit really hard when they do hit.

Brismachine  Tournament, 2 days, 3 events Warmachine event.

Day one 50 points Standard SR2012 Brismachine Cup

Same day night event for non finalist 20 Point Metal/Tooth and Claw with 3 minute turns.

Day two 35 points Standard SR2012

I plan to play both the 50 point and 35 point event and considering my mediocre skills I’ll write a 20 point list too.

For the first 50 point list (50 points is typical of our Meta) I've had 6 games testing this out .

Style of play, assassination and freaky threat range! I use Zulu bull horn tactic using the caster and spriggan’s center with counter charging Drakhun and wardog support with the Gun Carriages and Elimnators and Fenris running the flanks.

Strakhov feat really supports the flanks being able to charge into the centre and provide huge beats to opponent’s casters and troops.

New players never seem to see the spriggan’s threat range potential with Overrun and Superiority up to 21” charge on feat turn.

Just finished the Khador Battle Engines "Gun Carriages"

These battle engines make interesting additions to my army - they provide balance between speed, fire power and armour, and most importantly increase focus efficiencies for my casters, they not being warjacks and don't use focus.

Down point, one of the very few battle engines without a boost ability, nor are they part of a battle group so they miss out on all those cool battle group rules and spells.

The Gun Carriage main strength is speed and fire power, add the rough terrain their cannon shells leave behind and you get a good amount of board control.

I'm playing both in a 50 point Kommander Strakhov army as he syngenesis quite well with them.

Khador Review Part 4

I love Epic Vlad but after scouting a few games with Prime Vlad I was quite surprised at how well he synergy with Khador models and decided to paint him up and give him a go.

Prime Vladimar Tzepesci, The Dark Prince


Blood of Kings - Gives he excellent bonus +3 SPD, STR, MAT, DEF and ARM but cost quite a bit so can be trap to use - (situational)
Boundless Charge - can be cast multiple time and give bonus to speed and pathfinder to a model, really nice on solo or Jacks - (bread and butter spell)
Razor Wind - Nuke spell, low damaging and cost - (has it uses)
Sign & Portents - creates a bubble 14" around the cast and all friendly troops roll extra dice to hit and damage, discard the lowest dice -  (Outstanding spell)
Wind Wall - Stops none magical shooting at models completely within 3 inch, I feel the spell can be okay but I'd rather use sign and portents - (bread and butter spell)

Feat - Forced March
War jacks in his battle group double their speed for a turn - Nice bonus but most Khador armies I play have limited battle groups, this can be a nice surprise late game.

I love this caster, he synergies so well with all troops and war jack, battle engines etc, combat and shooting benefit from him being around.

Shame about the model, Big feet, oversized shoulder pad but not sexy as his Epic version, and the new cav version is even better.

Khador Review Part 3

More khador finished, getting very close to finishing this painting projects, Played quite a few games this weekend and used a few new models here is the run down

One of the new caster I'm Trying is Prime Kommandant Irusk - The old man of Khador!

Irusk is all about the infantry, it's what he does and supporting Khador's already excellent infantry making them almost unstoppable. 


Airbust - nice little damage spell for those solo's that like to hide - (situational)
Battlelust - can be cast on multiple targets giving them an additional damage die - (bread and butter spell)
Grind - Nuke spell with slight bonus of damaging movement box on enemy jack - (situational)
Inhospitable ground - creates a bubble 14" around the cast of rough terrain -  (situational)
Iron Flesh - again one of the best spells for a Khador caster, +3 def and -1 moving too unit - (bread and butter spell)
Superiority - Very nice upkeep for Warjack gies +2 Mat, Def and Movement - (Excellent bonus spell)

Feat - Undying Loyality

It's twofold, one all friendly warrior models/unit get - Tough, Fearless, +2 to hit and cannot be knock-down, want more? okay how about all those models within control range get tough on a 4+

Nothing for warjacks in the feat which seems a shame :0)

I rate Irusk as one of the best Caster available for Khador but he is a tad predictable in play and can lead to sameness in tactics, he doesn't do the job himself but is the master of getting the most out of his troops.

One of the many troops Irusk can get the most out of are Ironfang Pikemen

Ironfang's represent the other side of Khador - Military tradition of combat and tough men taking on giant warjacks with pointy sticks and axes! The great bears are one of the most feared units but these Pikemen aren't far off. 

They feel like heavy infantry with shield wall but it's their speed that makes them excellent choice, with a mini - Feat which allows them the move and take up shield wall after completing their activation.
They make a dangerous jamming unit for Khador, perfect for defending your lines or taking it the enemy.

Also they have combined attacks and high powered reach weapons with critical knockdown, a full unit with UA is quite reasonably costed and Ironfang Pikes get plenty of table top time in casual play and tournaments.

I rate these guys as good choice right up there with Kayazy  Assassins for Khador player's.

Under Vlads feat they really add threat ranged assassination for the unsuspecting players beware being within  13.5 inches but I'm starting to think they operate just as well for casters with boundless charge as path finder can really help them out.

Some time I buy the minis base on the looks, I just cannot figure out how to get anything out of this unit

Why? What? How? do you work!

If I just stay patient maybe PP will bring out a command attachment that make them brilliant or I might figure them out.
